Weekend of Fun

I got to go to Nashville this weekend...it was awesome and so much fun. Only three more weeks or something like that till spring break.

Well another week of coding. My motivation is starting to decrease with both classes and coding...the only thing keeping me going is knowing that I will get out of Bloomington in just over a year and get an actual job...I can't wait.

But this weekend was awesome...

Did I mention that I can't wait to graduate? I think this point is pretty well established throughout my posts but I just had to say it again.

Irrational?

Yes, so after posting the last post about jobs I thought: is my thinking irrational? Maybe...but after talking to other people, I don't think so.

Job time

This is another perk of being a doctoral student: trying to find support money. Its just plain annoying after awhile...constantly trying to find money for the summer, research, travel, even money to support myself during the school year. So apparently this summer, the lab (which has not had a grant in I'm not sure how many years) said they can't pay me for the summer because research money is their first priority..fair enough. I can't even apparently work for the money as the stats and psych department don't have any spots for teaching or taing. My advisor suggested that I take out a loan. Anyone who knows me knows that is not going to happen. So here is the plan......get ready...finding a job. Yes, now I get to work on my dissertation and work a job. Gosh hopefully I can find a job. So if anyone needs someone who knows something about stats, psychology, animal behavior, child development let me know. Willing to travel...willing to do almost anything. This nice summer job will surely not make my dissertation as strong but at least I will be able to pay for basic things in life. Oh yea by doing this I will now free up all that research money that goes to the infant lab...so I will definitely be saving the lab lots of money this summer.

Best weekend ever?

So last night I was so excited not to have a GPSO (the graduate government that I am luckily/unluckily an officer this year and next) event. Ahh no drama for one night. Not one person (eh-hem, names will not be revealed here) will call me at midnight asking if I have their keys or wallet. And I won't have to think to myself that I should probably force some people to go to rehab and stay there for a year. And I won't have to stay out till all hours of the night.

So the plans were to go out with 3 friends for dinner at 8. I called one of my friends at 5 and said that I had to go to Target but that I would go over after Target to watch a movie and then walk to dinner (everyone and their mother lives downtown which is fun). And so my exciting Friday started off with a trip to Target for the baby lab. Yes, my friends and I have decided that I could be your infant's personal shopper. I know all the toys. Well I know all the toys that Target has in Bloomington and online at Toys r Us. But anyways I had a mission to buy some toys for my new project. About how long do you think this would take? Maybe 15 minutes? Well since I live in small town Indiana (aka Bloomington) I saw everyone and their mother. And I also got everyone and their mother's opinion on the toys I should buy. 2 hours later. I walk out of Target. It was amusing that trying to buy 2 toys could actually take that long and it wasn't really me deciding, its just apparently everyone from the Psych department goes to the mall around 5. On to dinner...fun and low key and no calls from drunk people. Today is going to be great...already worked out, getting ready to go to Marsh for the salad and then off to the lab to work. What else could be better?

Next week's excitement with GPSO: Valentine's Day Dance. SERIOUSLY? Yes, seriously. Its at one of my favorite places and they will have a band, but I just hope that it doesn't turn into some awkward thing...details about this super event later.

In year 4...

And the "BMW comment" is a reference to Chad. :) This weekend: Chad-whole new wardrobe Jen-sweatpants from VS. We both made big purchases and one of us didn't have to worry about the whole stipend thing. Guess who.

Sometimes I question why the heck I'm spending most of my day coding infant attention. It will probably save the planet one of these days.

However, I'm getting really good at planning my day around the free food at the university...although the Biology department is slacking on some of the food before talks. Boo.

Man I miss my friends and family in Tennessee....three more weeks till I go back to Nashville! :)
